The penguin is coming again – before the close of 2015
After over a year, a new penguin algorithm from google is finally imminent. The powers that be at google has gone public, confirming that the next update will be in the latter portion of 2015, hot on the heels of the recent rankbrain introduction.
Yes, it is close at hand. But that’s not all: this update is different than every penguin update that has gone before it – the odds are very good that it will join it’s sister algorithm ( panda ) and become real time. While this isn’t quite definite, in all probability it will be the case.
This may or may not be a good thing for you, depending on your current search engine optimisation techniques, but there is no doubt that it will change things for everyone, regardless of how they currently practise seo. Like every major google algorithm update, there will be winners and losers.
If you are doing good work and feeling that you are getting a raw deal at present, the new version of penguin could actually do you a lot of good.
Perhaps your website is currently under penalty and you have disavowed links and submitted a reconsideration request to google? This update could help you to recover your rankings quicker ( even if it isn’t real time ).
If you have been involved in building spam links, then it may not be too late for you to disavow them and submit a reconsideration request before the update rolls out. In the short term this could result in a ranking drop, but it could have benefits further down the track.
If penguin does switch to a real time iteration, the recovery process should become much faster – a big plus for victims of negative link building campaigns and reckless seo consultants.
In reality, though, nobody really knows what impact this next update will have until it arrives – we’ll just have to wait for it and see.
